Mom's Tribute To Her Ex Shows The Importance Of Coming Together To Co-Parent

"I'm the most stubborn person that I know and forgiveness came easy to us for the sake of our son."

Co-parenting after splitting up with a partner is challenging, especially if your relationship with that person is rocky. However, sharing parental duties can help give children stability and make them feel secure. They can develop close relationships with both of their parents and reflect positively on their overall well-being.

Jessica Singleton and Jon Megason have a son named Pierson, but the couple is no longer together. Recently, Singleton wrote a heartfelt note to her ex on Facebook commending him on his co-parenting efforts. She shared that Megason is a "diaper-bag-wearing, chocolate-milk-making, selfless, protective, generous, [and] accomplished" father to her son. He drops off diapers so that she doesn't have to bring Pierson to the store to get them, takes him for the day with little notice, and listens to Singleton cry when she's having a bad day.

"[He's] a man who rushes over because we got locked out of the house or spends his evening fixing something for us. This is a man who labeled the presents he bought his son from 'mommy' because mommy couldn't get him as many. A man who still watches my sister's kids so our son can be with his cousins," she wrote.

However, Singleton admits that it wasn't easy to get to a place where they could amicably co-parent

"The amount of obstacles we've had to overcome to get to this point are tremendous," she wrote. "This was not easy, this was a choice. Stop giving excuses and come together for your children. I'm the most stubborn person that I know and forgiveness came easy to us for the sake of our son. And because of that, I see my son every single day. We always welcome each other's presence."

She ended the post by telling Megason she's grateful for him and saying, "I love the amount of love my son will always have from you."

The post has been shared on Facebook more than 135,000 times since it was first posted early last week and has amassed more than 17,000 comments. Many commenters are commending Singleton and Megason on their ability to put their child before their differences.

"Priceless. Congratulations to both of you for seeing what is most important in your sons' life — two parents who love and support him unconditionally together, despite the fact that they are no longer a couple in the traditional sense of the word. Pierson is one very lucky little boy," one commenter wrote

"It's nice to see that you both realize how important it is to put aside your differences for your son. So many people just walk away, bad mouth the other parent, etc. You both sound like amazing parents!!!" another wrote

It's clear that Megason feels the same way about Singleton. A few days later, he shared photos of them with their son at the park along with a caption of gratitude. "I'm thankful to have a co-parent like Jessica Singleton," he wrote. "The things she does and the hoops she jumps through to make sure our son can spend time with his two favorite people are amazing."

Perhaps these parents will help to set a positive example for others who are struggling to put their differences aside for the sake of coparenting their children.
