Google Has Revealed The Most Misspelled Word In Each State — Are You Guilty?

Wisconsin's might be the weirdest.

Nobody's perfect, and most of us have turned to Google at one point or another to ask how to spell a particularly troublesome word. What we might not have expected was for Google to turn around and make a map out of it. In honor of this week's Scripps National Spelling Bee, the search engine laid out each state's most misspelled words in a handy map.

Google determined the results by looking at searches for "how to spell" from January 1, 2017, to April 30, 2017. Whatever word accompanied that phrase the most for each state made it onto the map. Have a look at your state's top search — would you get it right in a spelling bee?

The irony is that the map, as it was originally tweeted, contained a spelling error of its own. Apparently, both Washington, D.C., and Google itself have trouble spelling "ninety," as the map initially read "nintey," but was soon corrected.

Here's the full list, in alphabetical order by state, per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

Alabama: pneumonia
Alaska: schedule
Arizona: tomorrow
Arkansas: chihuahua
California: beautiful
Colorado: tomorrow
Connecticut: supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Delaware: hallelujah
Washington, D.C.: ninety
Florida: receipt
Georgia: gray
Hawaii: people
Idaho: quote
Illinois: pneumonia
Indiana: hallelujah
Iowa: vacuum
Kansas: diamond
Kentucky: beautiful
Louisiana: giraffe
Maine: pneumonia
Maryland: special
Massachusetts: license
Michigan: pneumonia
Minnesota: beautiful
Mississippi: nanny
Missouri: maintenance
Montana: surprise
Nebraska: suspicious
Nevada: available
New Hampshire: difficult
New Jersey: twelve
New Mexico: bananas
New York: beautiful
North Carolina: angel
North Dakota: dilemma
Ohio: beautiful
Oklahoma: patient
Oregon: sense
Pennsylvania: sauerkraut
Rhode Island: liar
South Carolina: chihuahua
South Dakota: college
Tennessee: chaos
Texas: maintenance
Utah: disease
Vermont: Europe
Virginia: delicious
Washington: pneumonia
West Virginia: supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Wisconsin: Wisconsin
Wyoming: priority

Some of the results aren't that surprising. For instance, the tricky "pneumonia" was the most misspelled in five states: Alabama, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, and Washington. People in West Virginia and Connecticut, meanwhile, really want to know how to spell Mary Poppins' famous word "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" — even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious.

It might seem like a bad sign that five states have trouble spelling "beautiful," but we'll choose to look at it more positively. After all, it might just mean people in California, Kentucky, Minnesota, New York, and Ohio are surrounded by beautiful things, and they want to describe them accurately.

Elsewhere, it looks like New Mexico needs to listen to Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" one more time to remember how to spell "bananas," while Arizona might be full of procrastinators who need to know how to spell "tomorrow." But perhaps the weirdest result of all is that people in Wisconsin have trouble spelling ... "Wisconsin." We'll be scratching our heads over that one for a while.
